What Does It Mean To Seek Jesus?

To Seek Jesus Is To:

  1. Pursue a personal relationship with Him through the free gift of salvation
  2. Communicate with Him through prayer
  3. Search for Him (the Living Word) as we read and study the written Word of God in the Holy Bible
  4. Worship Him with thanksgiving and praise
  5. Prioritize Jesus first and desire His presence in all areas of your life

The Bible says in 1 Chronicles 16:11 NLT, “Search for the LORD and for his strength; continually seek him.”

  1. Pursue A Personal Relationship With Jesus Through The Free Gift Of Salvation

You can have a personal relationship with Jesus by believing that Jesus is God’s Son and the Savior of the world. The Bible says in Romans 3:23 ESV, “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” Our sin separates us from having a right relationship with God. But the good news is that the Bible also states in John 3:16-17 NLT, “For this is how God loved the world: He gave his one and only Son so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life. God sent his Son into the world not to judge the world, but to save the world through him”. Jesus is God’s Son, and by believing in Him and asking for forgiveness of your sins and asking Jesus to save you from the penalty for your sins (which is spiritual death and eternal separation from God), you can be restored to a right relationship with God and be saved.

The Bible says in Acts 4:12 NLT, “There is salvation in no one else! God has given no other name under heaven by which we must be saved.”

The Bible teaches that God is a God of love and has compassion for people even though we all are guilty of sin and, therefore, should suffer the penalty for our sins.

But because God is so loving and forgiving, He sent His Son Jesus to die on the cross, and He paid the penalty that should have been ours. The Bible says in  Romans 5:8 NLT, “But God showed his great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners.”

It is my prayer (if you haven’t done so already) that you will pursue a personal relationship with Jesus for your salvation and eternal future.

Here are the steps to lead you into a personal relationship with God through His Son, Jesus.

1. ADMIT that you are a sinner (the Bible says in Romans 3:23 ESV, “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God”)

2. REPENT “and be willing to turn from your sin.”

3. BELIEVE “that Jesus Christ died for you on the cross.”

     (Quoted from (BGEA, 2016)

 4. RECEIVE Jesus Christ into your heart and life through prayer. The Bible says in Romans 10:13 ESV, “For everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.” That includes you, no matter what you may have done in your past. Jesus loves you and is forgiving, and He wants to walk with you in your life as your Savior and Lord.

I wanted to write a sample prayer for you to pray (and you can use this prayer if this is what you sincerely believe or say your own words), but what matters most is that you pray your words from your heart because Jesus knows your heart. This is my sample prayer for you:

Dear God, I am a sinner, and I know that my sins separate me from You. I am sorry for my sins and ask for Your forgiveness. I believe that Jesus Christ is Your Son. I believe He died for my sins and that You raised Him to life. I want Jesus to come into my heart and take control of my life as my Savior and Lord from this day forward. In Jesus’ Name, I pray, amen.

2. Communicate With Jesus Through Prayer

Communication is essential to every relationship. God cares about every detail of our lives. Prayer is an intimate conversation with God, deepening our relationship with Him. Prayer allows us to share our thoughts and feelings with God and gives us hope.

The Bible says in Jeremiah 29:12-13 ESV, “Then you will call upon me and come and pray to me, and I will hear you. You will seek me and find me, when you seek me with all your heart”.

3. Search For Jesus As We Read And Study The Bible

The Bible says in 2 Timothy 3:16 NLT, “All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right”.

Reading and studying the Bible and memorizing Bible verses are all very important. The Bible says in Psalm 119:11 NLT, “I have hidden your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you.” We may not always have a physical Bible at hand. Still, when we have Bible verses memorized, they will be brought to our remembrance by the power of the Holy Spirit when we need them to help guide us to look to God for peace, direction, comfort, strength, or whatever we may need.

I enjoy reading my Bible in the mornings before I start my day, along with prayer. I find it comforting to start my day with God every morning, and it helps me handle each day’s challenges better. Knowing that I started my day with God assures me that He is with me no matter what challenges may arise. I also like to end my day with prayer and Bible reading, thanking God for His many blessings and keeping my family, myself, and others safe.

4. Worship Jesus With Thanksgiving And Praise

The Bible says in Matthew 4:10 NLT, “…“For the Scriptures say, ‘You must worship the Lord your God and serve only him.’ ”

Psalm 100:4 NLT says, “Enter his gates with thanksgiving; go into his courts with praise. Give thanks to him and praise his name”.

I enjoy spending my days with my Savior and Lord Jesus Christ as I pray to Him throughout my day, thanking Him for His many blessings, faithfulness, and love.

I also enjoy singing and listening to songs of worship and praise to Him while at home, driving in my car, or during worship services at my church.

5. Prioritize Jesus First And Desire His Presence In All Areas Of Your Life

Jesus should be prioritized as first in our lives. To seek Jesus for our lives is to intentionally and purposefully include Him in every area of our lives. That means with our daily decision-making, plans, goals, and aspirations, and even being careful about what we let enter our minds.

For example, as Christians, we should be quite selective of the movies and TV shows we watch. As well as the books, magazines, and internet content we read and the music lyrics we listen to. If not careful, these things can easily corrupt our minds and turn us away from a life that seeks after Jesus.

I have seen so many Christians become so enraptured with a popular song just because the beat is “catchy,” and yet they pay no attention to the lyrics. Please understand that the songwriter had a specific message that they wanted to convey.

So ask yourself, follower of Christ, do your favorite song lyrics, movies/TV shows, or maybe your favorite book or podcast; honor the Lord Jesus, promote the message of the Bible, and certainly not promote any message or philosophies that are clearly against Biblical principles?

The Bible says in Romans 12:2 NLT, “Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.”

Of course, there are still some songs, movies, books, etc (though sadly, today, they are getting harder to find) that would be considered “clean” and safe for entertainment and use. For example, if you are reading a cookbook about how to make your favorite meal, then, of course, it would most likely be safe to read.

I’m saying that as Christians, we need to put more emphasis on purposefully seeking after the one we claim as our Savior and Lord, and that is Jesus Christ.

If you are a born-again believer (meaning you have prayed and received salvation), you have already entered into a personal relationship with God through faith in His Son, Jesus Christ. But as we seek Jesus, we should desire His presence and engage in a deeper relationship with Him. Again, the Bible says in Jeremiah 29:13 ESV, “You will seek me and find me, when you seek me with all your heart.”

If you think about it, we spend most of our time with the things we love most. If you love football, you probably have a favorite team and team member you enjoy cheering for. You may even own that team member’s jersey with their name on it, and I can also probably assume that you watch most, if not all, their games, and you may even host a Superbowl party at your home. Well, you get my point. So, if we say that we love Jesus, then we should deliberately be seeking to spend time with Him throughout each day by communicating with Him through prayer, reading and studying the Bible, worshipping Him as we sing songs of praise and adoration for being the amazing, wonderful almighty God that He is.

The Bible says in Psalm 16:11 ESV,” You make known to me the path of life; in your presence there is fullness of joy; at your right hand are pleasures forevermore.”

I am so grateful to my Savior and Lord Jesus Christ that I can say from my experience of spending time with Him that there truly is fullness of joy in His presence.

So, in conclusion, my friend, if you haven’t yet trusted Jesus to be your Savior and Lord, then I strongly encourage you to take that leap of faith right now. Today is the day of Salvation, and tomorrow is not promised to anyone. And to my dear sisters in Christ who have already taken that leap of faith, and no matter where you are along this lifelong journey with Jesus, I’d like to encourage you to stay strong in the faith and to remember to Seek Jesus 4 Life!!!  To Jesus be The Glory!!!
