Absolutely Yes! Jesus said in John 14:6 NLT, “Jesus told him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one can come to the Father except through me”.
Jesus is clearly stating that:
- He is the WAY – the ONLY access point to God (paraphrased from Evans, 2019)
- He is the TRUTH – the Living Word of God
- He is the LIFE – the resurrected Son of God
No one can come to the Father EXCEPT through Him.
The Bible says in 1 Timothy 2:5 NLT, “ For, There is one God and one Mediator who can reconcile God and humanity—the man Christ Jesus.”
The Bible clearly states here that the only go-between or the only one that can bridge the gap between God and humanity is Jesus.
Perhaps you’re wondering why humanity needs a bridge to connect with God. Great question!
When God created Adam (the first man) and Eve (the first woman), they lived in perfect harmony and fellowship with God. God told Adam that he could eat fruit from any tree in the Garden of Eden, except fruit from the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil. God told Adam that if he ever ate fruit from that specific tree, he would surely die.
One day, Satan, in the form of a serpent, tempted Eve to eat a piece of fruit from the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil. Eve gave in to the temptation and ate, then gave Adam the fruit, and he ate as well. This disobedience of Adam and Eve is where sin first entered the world, and because of the sin of the first man and woman, the Bible says that we are all guilty of sin. Romans 3:23 NLT states, “For everyone has sinned; we all fall short of God’s glorious standard.” As a result of this original sin, we are now all born with a sinful nature that rebels against God. Sin causes us to be separated from having a right relationship with God. God is Holy, and Holy God cannot align Himself with sin. So now humanity has the problem of being eternally separated from God as well as having to pay the penalty for their sins, which is death (physical and spiritual death). This great problem requires a great solution. This is where God’s great mercy and love for His creation comes in. God solved the problem by sending His Son Jesus into the world, and Jesus became the mediator that would bridge the gap separating humanity from God.
The Bible says in John 3:16 NLT, “For this is how God loved the world: He gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life.”
The Bible also says in Romans 6:23 NLT, “For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life through Christ Jesus our Lord.”
So you see from this verse that the wages or payment for our sin is death, but God’s free gift to us is that we can have eternal life in Heaven with Him through faith in Jesus, His Son.
Jesus loved us so much that He so graciously and willingly died on the cross to pay the debt that humanity owed God for their sin and rebellion. Jesus was the only one qualified to be humanity’s substitution because He was without sin.
Many people mistakenly believe they can get to Heaven by doing “good works” and other things. But that is entirely false. The Bible, which is the Word of God, clearly states in Ephesians 2:8-9 ESV, “For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast”.
Let me explain this verse one portion at a time.
1.“For by grace, you have been saved through faith.”
1a. God’s Grace is His giving us favor we do not deserve. We cannot earn God’s grace. Grace is God’s free gift to us.
1b. Being “saved” here means that we are spared, delivered, or rescued from suffering the consequences and payment for our sins (Jesus did that in our place).
1c. Faith means in this verse that we believe that Jesus is the Son of God and Savior for the world, that He paid the penalty by death on the cross for our sins, and that He rose again (resurrected) back to life on the third day just as He said He would, conquering death. He opened the door for us to have eternal life in Heaven.
Romans 10:9-10 NLT states, “If you openly declare that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is by believing in your heart that you are made right with God, and it is by openly declaring your faith that you are saved”.
2. “And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast.” This portion of the verse clearly explains how “good works” cannot get us to Heaven; only faith in Jesus can. Why? The Bible clearly states that salvation is a free gift so that no one can boast or brag and say that they got into Heaven because they did a lot of “good works.” Only Jesus can take credit for the saved persons’ admittance into Heaven.
So, my friend, you can have God’s free gift of salvation and be assured that you will live eternally in Heaven with God when you:
1. ADMIT that you are a sinner (the Bible says in Romans 3:23 ESV, “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God”)
2. REPENT “and be willing to turn from your sin.”
3. BELIEVE “that Jesus Christ died for you on the cross.”
(Quoted from (BGEA, 2016)
4. RECEIVE Jesus Christ into your heart and life through prayer. The Bible says in Romans 10:13 ESV, “For everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.” That includes you, no matter what you may have done in your past. Jesus loves you and is forgiving, and He wants to walk with you in your life as your Savior and Lord.
I wanted to write a sample prayer for you to pray (and you can use this prayer if this is what you sincerely believe or say your own words), but what matters most is that you pray your words from your heart because Jesus knows your heart. This is my sample prayer for you:
Dear God, I am a sinner, and I know that my sins separate me from You. I am sorry for my sins and ask for Your forgiveness. I believe that Jesus Christ is Your Son. I believe He died for my sins and that You raised Him to life. I want Jesus to come into my heart and take control of my life as my Savior and Lord from this day forward. In Jesus’ Name, I pray, amen.
Well, friend, I pray that you make the decision to trust Jesus to be your Savior and Lord. Then, you can have the free gift of eternal life in Heaven.
As always, remember to Seek Jesus 4 Life!!!
