Part 2 of The Holy Trinity Series

Hello everyone. Today, we continue our series on the Holy Trinity. The Holy Trinity consists of God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit—One God in Three Distinct Persons. In part 2, I will discuss ten characteristics of Jesus, the second person of the Holy Trinity – God the Son. Please keep in mind that this list is not exhaustive. I encourage you to delve deeper into the scriptures and learn about Jesus’s many other wonderful characteristics.

First, let’s look at John 1:1-2 NLT – “In the beginning the Word already existed. The Word was with God, and the Word was God. He existed in the beginning with God.”

Jesus is described as “The Word” (Logos, Greek). This verse states that Jesus already existed in the beginning. Jesus was with God (Son), and Jesus is God.

Now let’s look at John 1:14 NLT – “So the Word became human and made his home among us. He was full of unfailing love and faithfulness. And we have seen his glory, the glory of the Father’s one and only Son.”

Jesus, as previously discussed, already existed; in John 1:14, we see that Jesus became human, made His home on earth (for 33 years), and dwelt among His creation. Why do I say “His creation”? Well, check out John 1:3 NLT – “God created everything through him, and nothing was created except through him.” According to the scriptures, God created all things through Jesus. (Also check out Colossians 1:16; Hebrews 1:2)

As the Second Person of the Holy Trinity, Jesus Christ is as Colossians 1:15 NLT states, “Christ is the visible image of the invisible God. He existed before anything was created and is supreme over all creation,”

When Jesus lived on earth, He was both fully God and fully man. Colossians 2:9 NLT states, “For in Christ lives all the fullness of God in a human body.”

Let’s look at some of Jesus’ characteristics as fully man. Here, I will list just five of these characteristics.

5 Characteristics of Jesus’ Humanity – Fully Man

1. Jesus Was Born :

Luke 2:7 NLT – “She gave birth to her firstborn son. She wrapped him snugly in strips of cloth and laid him in a manger, because there was no lodging available for them.” Here, the virgin Mary gives birth to Jesus. (Luke 1:26-38; Luke 2:1-7).

2. Jesus Grew Up And Developed:

Luke 2:39-40 NLT – “When Jesus’ parents had fulfilled all the requirements of the law of the Lord, they returned home to Nazareth in Galilee. There the child grew up healthy and strong. He was filled with wisdom, and God’s favor was on him.”

3. Jesus Got Hungry:

Matthew 4:2 NLT – “For forty days and forty nights he fasted and became very hungry.”

4. Jesus Got Tired:

John 4:6 NLT – “Jacob’s well was there; and Jesus, tired from the long walk, sat wearily beside the well about noontime.”

5. Jesus Wept:

John 11:35 NLT – “Then Jesus wept.”

Below, we will look at five of Jesus’ characteristics as fully God. Again, this is a condensed list of five, but there are others that I encourage you to check out.

5 Characteristics of Jesus’ Deity – Fully God

1. Jesus Forgave Sin:

Mark 2:5 NLT – “Seeing their faith, Jesus said to the paralyzed man, “My child, your sins are forgiven.” (Read Mark 2:1-12)

2. Jesus Healed The Sick:

Matthew 8:14-17 NLT – “When Jesus arrived at Peter’s house, Peter’s mother-in-law was sick in bed with a high fever. But when Jesus touched her hand, the fever left her. Then she got up and prepared a meal for him. That evening many demon-possessed people were brought to Jesus. He cast out the evil spirits with a simple command, and he healed all the sick. This fulfilled the word of the Lord through the prophet Isaiah, who said, “He took our sicknesses and removed our diseases.”

3. Jesus Raised People From The Dead:

Luke 7:11-15 NLT – “Soon afterward Jesus went with his disciples to the village of Nain, and a large crowd followed him. A funeral procession was coming out as he approached the village gate. The young man who had died was a widow’s only son, and a large crowd from the village was with her. When the Lord saw her, his heart overflowed with compassion. “Don’t cry!” he said. Then he walked over to the coffin and touched it, and the bearers stopped. “Young man,” he said, “I tell you, get up.” Then the dead boy sat up and began to talk! And Jesus gave him back to his mother.” (Read Luke 7:11-17)

4. Jesus Controlled The Winds And Waves:

Mark 4:36-39 NLT – “So they took Jesus in the boat and started out, leaving the crowds behind (although other boats followed).” But soon a fierce storm came up. High waves were breaking into the boat, and it began to fill with water. Jesus was sleeping at the back of the boat with his head on a cushion. The disciples woke him up, shouting, “Teacher, don’t you care that we’re going to drown?” When Jesus woke up, he rebuked the wind and said to the waves, “Silence! Be still!” Suddenly the wind stopped, and there was a great calm.” (Read Mark 4:35-41).

5. Jesus Performed Miracles:

(Read John 2:1-11)

John 2:3 NLT – “The wine supply ran out during the festivities, so Jesus’ mother told him, “They have no more wine.”

John 2:7-9 NLT – “Jesus told the servants, “Fill the jars with water.” When the jars had been filled, he said, “Now dip some out, and take it to the master of ceremonies.” So the servants followed his instructions. When the master of ceremonies tasted the water that was now wine, not knowing where it had come from (though, of course, the servants knew), he called the bridegroom over.”

John 2:11 NLT – “This miraculous sign at Cana in Galilee was the first time Jesus revealed his glory. And his disciples believed in him.”

So, in conclusion, we saw that the Second Person of the Holy Trinty-Jesus existed in the beginning before creation, that He was with God (Son), and that He is God. God created all things through Jesus. Jesus took on human form and lived on earth, all while being Fully God and also Fully Man. We looked at ten characteristics of Jesus, including five from Jesus’ humanity and five from Jesus’ Deity.

Stay tuned for part 3 of the Holy Trinity series, where I will discuss the ministries of The Holy Spirit.
